Manta rays – majestic, majestic underwater creatures whose movements paradoxically resemble the flight of birds. Elegant dancers moving in the depths of untamed oceans. Graceful curves crossing one of the world’s last truly wild places. A world with which we are so connected and yet so distant and unknown to us. And perhaps because of all these contradictions, fascinated by its power and fragility at the same time, I decided to exhibit this creature in a completely different environment, a different perspective, in completely different contexts. While walking under angel wings, you can dream, unleash your imagination and be transported to the seabed or somewhere further away…

Cuddlie, Racers and Virus are objects inspired by the world that remains hidden from our eyes – the microworld. Although we cannot see these organisms with the naked eye, they lead complex lives and significantly influence the world we perceive with our senses.

Cuddlie, a sculpture inspired by bacteria and turtles, represents the fascinating world of microfauna. When magnified with an electron microscope, it reveals itself as a sophisticated biological system full of surprising details. This version of Pet, made of cut tubes and sintered glass, glows captivatingly at night, becoming a visible symbol of an otherwise invisible world.

The same technique is used to create Virus – a seemingly simple, but in reality complex organism that, despite its tiny size, can dramatically intervene in our lives. Its sculptural form emphasizes the paradoxical beauty of its structure.

The latest visitors from the microworld are participants in the great race that each of us won at the beginning of our lives and became winners for a temporary role in our world.

Visitors from the microworlds in the form of sculptures enlarged to human scale force the observer to think about their own size and perhaps enjoy their victory more or not take it so seriously, because the answer to the question of life in the universe and so on will remain unanswered… or will it?

In front of the theater, among the trees in Vincenzo Pilz Park, sculptures from the Pets series live. They are here to remind us that the boundaries between art and life are more fluid than we think — and that even an ordinary place can hide a miracle of form and detail.

The exhibition mainly presents paintings inspired by the sea and mountains, where Michal Trpák likes to “escape” from civilization to gain energy and be closer to nature. Although Trpák is primarily a sculptor, in his free time, during a lunch siesta on board a sailboat or after skiing at a hotel, he picks up a brush and records images of nature.

The exhibited paintings are thus inspired by sailing on the sea and its changes or the colors of the sky reflected in the surface. Or by the ascents on “seal belts” to images of snowy mountains. Long lines in the snow leading upwards, into the clouds…

In addition to paintings, Michal presents new sculptures that he created based on ideas and inspirations of marine fauna from his son Tim. “Monsters” that were created by recycling old tanks and pipes. They were given a new meaning and “meaning” in the figures of unknown creatures that have fragments from the animal kingdom. Recycled elements are subtly reworked and completed using new parts modeled in wax and then cast in bronze.

On the last day of June, the R2020 Gallery in České Budějovice will open an exhibition of new sculptures and light paintings by the České Budějovice sculptor and artist Michal Trpák, along with the launch of a book titled Stone and Element. The exhibition is taking place on the occasion of the artist’s fortieth birthday, which he celebrated in February this year. He will present his new work based on light paintings, in which people’s stories unfold, sometimes in compositions captured in the studio, sometimes in the exterior. All works are connected by the theme of stripes, which are the main expressive element and motif.

Thanks to this theme, the paintings and reliefs alternate between light passing through fused glass (sintered shards) and lasered metal. Each painting was first created as a painting, which was then converted into computer graphics and vectors and transferred to sheet metal by laser. The resulting effect is a light image or relief capturing the subtlety of the drawing in raw steel in contrast with the fragile glass.

The exhibition will also present new sculptural work by Michal Trpák. The object is again built from sheets of metal, which alternate free space and matter in a grid, creating the effect of partially transparent sculptures.

Michal Trpák also gave himself a gift for his jubilee in the form of a book called Stone and Element, which presents his work from his student work to the present. The stories of the sculptures were first captured with a pen by Markéta Pilátová and then transcribed on a computer. The final graphic form of the book was added by Martin Šimánek, and the text form was refined and the book was published by publicist and publisher Zdenko Pavelka. The book will be ceremonially presented and christened at the opening of the exhibition.

The exhibition will be introduced by Michal Trpák and the book will be introduced by writer Markéta Pilátová and publisher Zdenko Pavelka. Musical accompaniment during the opening will be provided by the Sving duo Avalon with a guest.

The exhibition will be held at the R2020 Gallery, Rabenštejnská 2020 Cultural Center, Panská 207/4 České Budějovice until September 5, 2022.

Ornament is not a crime. Or is it? Or is it a straight line? Adolf Loos described it this way in his work called Ornament and crime. Friedensreich Hundertwasser, on the other hand, considered straight line to be a crime. I believe that neither of those is a crime. However, I find ornament and curve much closer than a straight line. I present new reliefs made with glass and steel at the exposition in the Lucerna Gallery. I work with ornament motifs inspired by nature. Also presenting new light sculptures from alu and plexi. The exhibition tries to document my creation, my search for shapes and forms while using various materials, my search for human stories, paralel worlds, goddesses, happiness and freedom.
