Quite early after an attack on the group of sculptures „Meeting between Pixels“ Iva Sedláková (the head of the Department of Culture of the town Ceske Budejovice) and I agreed on a new installation. With a certain satiric exaggeration, I decided to place sculptures of vandals on the Lannova street. The initial idea to paraphrase the incident really intrigued me but I started to question the idea of making a „memorial“ to vandals later on. Vandals fight for their identity in their own strange way, they want to be seen whether one before another or the world. In the end, I decided to make a „memorial“ for them anyway to make their visibility and existence apparent and to make them as much visible as possible. Cement vandals create a space for self-expression and expression of emotions, it’s possible to spray, draw and scribble on them. I believe that this form of creative expression can substitute the destructive form. Cement vandals, a little bit flat and empty people, can become a collective work of everyone and self-fulfillment on their bodies might help to fill in the emptiness and superficiality.
